# Investment terms — Maldives Mariculture

Last reviewed: 2026-09-08 · https://maldivesmariculture.com/ · invest@maldivesmariculture.com

This file is the machine-readable equivalent of a pricing page. Mariculture projects
do not have list prices, so what is published here is the **structure**: the routes in,
the indicative ticket bands, what is disclosed at which stage, and what is deliberately
withheld and why.

## Routes to participate

| Route | Instrument | Board seat | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equity joint venture | Shares in a Maldivian JV company | Yes | Partners who want the upside and can wait for it |
| Project finance | Debt or mezzanine against one defined build | No | Partners wanting a defined instrument and exit |
| Offtake and pre-finance | Forward purchase contract | No | Importers, processors, trading houses buying supply security |
| Technical partnership | Capability capitalised as equity | Negotiable | Hatchery operators, feed companies, aquaculture institutes |
| Environmental / blue-economy funding | Grant, concessional, blended, results-based | No | Climate, ocean, biodiversity and multilateral funders |

## Indicative ticket bands

These are the bands used on the enquiry form. They indicate the scale of conversation,
not a price.

- Under USD 250,000
- USD 250,000 – 1,000,000
- USD 1,000,000 – 5,000,000
- Over USD 5,000,000
- Grant or non-dilutive funding
- Non-capital contribution (hatchery capability, broodstock, protocols, market access)

## What is published, and what is not

**Published on the website:** programme descriptions, species, indicative growth periods,
site layout and depth zoning, participation structures, the environmental position, the
licensing pathway, and the process from first contact to stocking.

**Released under NDA:** site-specific capital requirements, cost build-ups, production
modelling, yield and pricing assumptions, licensing status of specific sites, and the
promoter's own financial projections.

**Why:** figures vary with lagoon, distance to harbour and scale, and a number published
without its site attached is misleading rather than helpful. Site data is released once
an NDA is in place.

## Indicative time to first harvest

| Programme | Time to first harvest | Feed required |
|---|---|---|
| Seaweed longlines | 45–60 days per cycle | None |
| Reef fish grow-out | 10–16 months | Yes |
| Sea cucumber ranching | 12–18 months | None |
| Giant clam and coral | 18–30 months to first sale | None |

Indicative ranges for these species under tropical conditions. Not commitments for a
specific site.

## Process and timing

1. Introduction — programme of interest, what you bring, scale you work at.
2. NDA and data room — site data, cost build-ups, production modelling, licensing status.
3. Site visit — in the atoll, on the water. Considered non-optional for equity partners.
4. Term sheet — structure, valuation, staging, governance, exit. Non-binding and short.
5. Formation and licensing — JV incorporated, investment registered, lease and licence filed.
6. Build and stock — infrastructure built, crews hired, first cohort stocked.

Approximately six months from first contact to water, if both sides move.

## Structural constraint an investor should know first

Foreign investment runs under the **Foreign Investment Act (Law No. 11/2024)**, in force
3 December 2024. Activities are classified open, restricted or closed, each with an
ownership ceiling and minimum investment threshold. **Aquaculture is not among the
activities publicly listed as open to full foreign ownership**, so a joint venture is the
realistic starting structure rather than a wholly-owned foreign entity. Confirming the
current classification is the first item of due diligence on any specific project.
